PERM ENGINES SUPPORTED FIRST CHARTER FLIGHT OF IL-76TD-90VD FROM AMERICA

On February 9, 2007 the IL-76TD-90VD aircraft named "Vladimir Kokkinaki" that belongs to "Volga-Dnepr" Airline and is equipped with for Perm engines PS-90A-76 made its first charter flight from the USA. The route of the cargo air carrier ran through Kazan (Russia), Detroit (USA) and Bagdad (Iraq).

It is for the first time for the last seven years, when the Russian IL-76 aircraft landed at the territory of the USA. In year of 2002 very stringent restrictions were imposed on aircraft that do not meet the requirements of ICAO Stage 3. These were not allowed to make flights to the counties of Europe, North America, Australia and Japan. As the result of such restrictions the Russian IL-76 aircraft equipped with D-30KP engines that did not meet the environment requirements was not allowed to enter the skies of many countries worldwide. Thanks to the Perm PS-90A-76 engines, which are installed on the IL-76, the aircraft now meets not only current requirements but also future requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization. The aircraft has a certificate stating the compliance of the aircraft with ICAO Stage 4 requirements. Only the off-the-shelf aircraft of foreign origin and the Russian IL-96-300 aircraft have such certificates.

The first updated IL-76TD-90VD aircraft was launched into commercial operation in June 2006. The improved engine has allowed the aircraft to make flights to airports of Baku, Toulouse, Kuwait, Bombay, Sendai and some other cities worldwide. For half a year the IL-76TD-90VD has accumulated more than 520 flight hours in commercial service.

The updated IL-76 is the only one commercial aircraft in the global segment of aircraft with lift-loading capacity ranging from 30 tons to 50 tons that can be able to deliver bulky goods to any point worldwide. The PS-90A-96 with its unique performance has contributed to high potential of the aircraft and gives good prospects to the Russian "air truck" at the world aviation market.
