PERM AERO-ENGINE RELIABILITY IN SKY

In July the Ilyushin IL-96-300 aircraft powered by PS-90A aero-engine successfully underwent flight tests at high-altitude aerodromes of Ecuador, which locate at 2814 meters above sea level.

The tests were conducted on the production IL-96-300 aircraft (board No. CU-T1251), which was bought by Cubana de Aviacion of Cuba in December 2005. The test results will allow to release a Supplement to the IL-96-300 Type Certificate in nearest future that will cover the whole IL-96 aircraft family. Such a Supplement makes it possible to expand the aircraft service range and improve the aircraft commercial feasibility.

As Mr. Chernov, Deputy General Designer for Operations of Aviadvigatel, said, during the tests the IL-96-300 aircraft performed 10 flights between a basic airport in Havana and high-altitude aerodromes of Quito and Lataquncha in Ecuador. Mr. Chernov underlined: "The engines proved the reliability and maintained safe flights of the aircraft in severe environment".
