OJSC Perm Engine Company – participant of strategic gas transportation projects
In early nineties OJSC "Perm Engine Company" started cooperation with OJSC "Gasprom" in the framework of the "Ural-Gasprom" comprehensive program. Being the largest project in Perm at that time the program united nearly all local machinery manufacturers. It made the development and manufacture of the industrial gas turbine machinery a core business for Perm manufacturers. By 2008 having taken a market share of 40% OJSC "Perm Engine Company" became one of the leading Russian suppliers of gas turbines to drive centrifugal compressors of gas pumping units.
Recent years favorable conditions on the world gas market prompted "Gasprom" to actively develop new gas fields and retrofit the existing gas pipeline network.
At present the major gas pipeline routes from Western Siberia gas fields to the Western Europe export markets are running through Ukraine (over 80% of the entire export gas).
The events in Ukraine last January showed up prime significance of the issues related to the consumers gas supply security and diversification of the Russian "blue fuel" supply routes to Europe. OJSC "Gasprom" seeks for mitigation of risks connected with future gas supplies and intends to launch new huge gas transmission projects such as "Nord Stream" and "Yamal- Europe".
The existing pipelines from Russia to Europe will not be able to fully meet the growing demand for natural gas. One of the major projects to solve the issue and considerably increase export of the Russian gas to the EU countries is the construction of the "Nord Stream" pipeline with transmission capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. In March 2004 South-Russia oil and gas field was defined as the "Nord Stream" main raw material base. In the long term it is also planned to use supplementary sources of gas such as Yamal peninsular field, Obsk and Tazovsk bays fields and Stokman gas deposit.
The Russian overland section of the "Nord-Stream" gas pipeline (from "Gryazovets" compressor station to "Portovaya" compressor station) is 917 kilometers long and includes 7 compressor stations (CS) with CS "Portovaya" equipped with foreign-made gas pumping aggregate (GPA) with single unit power over 30MW.
The productivity of the first stage will amount to 28 billion cubic meters of gas per year (bcm/y).
To achieve the pipeline designed capacity target OJSC "Gasprom" will require thirty-four16 MW and twenty-four 25 ÌW GPAs.
The share of the Russian GPAs driven by OJSC "PMZ" made gas turbines will be around 50%.
In 2008 as part of "Nord Stream" construction project OJSC "PMZ" signed contracts for manufacture of 5 sets GTU-16P for CS "Yelizavetinskaya" and 6 sets GTU-25P for CS "Babayevskaya".
Another project capable to secure further expansion of export as the market develops and diversify Russian gas export flows in order to improve reliability and flexibility of gas supplies is "Yamal-Europe" gas pipeline.
Yamal gas will be transported on the route Bovanenkovo - Ukhta and then further Ukhta - Grayzovets, Grayzovets - Torzhok
The transmission line will stretch over 2400 km including new gas transmission corridor "Bovanenkovo-Ukhta" about 1100 km long (designed capacity -140 bcm/y) and gas pipeline "Ukhta-Torzok", 1300 km long (design capacity - 81.5 bcm/y). It is scheduled to enter service before 2013.
To achieve the pipeline designed capacity before 2020 OJSC "Gasprom" will require over a hundred 25 MW GPAs and about twenty 16MW GPAs for Bovanenkovo - Ukhta pipeline section, over eighty 25MW GPAs for Ukhta - Grayzovets section and ten 25MW GPAs for Grayzovets - Torzhok.
GPAs equipped with OJSC "PMZ" gas turbines will account for 30%.
For the purposes of participation in the project of "Bovanenkovo - Ukhta" gas pipeline construction in 2008 OJSC "PMZ" signed contracts for 7 sets GTU-16P manufacture for CS "Baydaratskaya" and is finalizing the contract for 5 sets GTU-25P for CS"Yarynskaya"
In the future OJSC "PMZ" plans to sign contracts for the delivery of 19 sets GTU-16P and 28 sets GTU-25P and to produce 5 spare engines PS-90GP-25 rated 25MW for "Gasprom" needs.
