“Polet” airline’s Il-96-400T with PS-90A1 engines began its service
The first commercial flight of the biggest domestic cargo aircraft Il-96-400T with PS-90A1 Perm engines took place in September, 2009.
This is the first of the three long haul cargo aircraft of Il-96 family intended for "Polet" airline. The airline should receive two other liners till the end of 2009 under terms of the contract with OJSC "Ilyushin Finance Co." leasing company.
The first commercial flight "Moscow - Yakutsk" of Il-96-400T aircraft (side number RA 96101) is of a special importance not only for the airline, but for the Russian aircraft industry in general: bringing new Russian cargo aircraft into service makes it possible to demonstrate the competitiveness of domestic commercial cargo aircraft on the world market. At the moment Il-96-400T aircraft is the only Russian-made wide-body cargo aircraft which complies with all international safety specifications.
According to Alexander Inozemtsev, general designer of OJSC "Aviadvigatel" - the designer of PS-90A aero-engine family - operation activity of Il-96-400T will make it possible for "Polet" airline to improve its positions on the scheduled air cargo service market of Russia and other countries. First of all, the aircraft will be used within the charter and schedule airline program on Far East and Siberia routes for the organization of consumer goods, foodstuff and medicine transportation. It will make it possible to provide with first-necessity goods the Northern and the Far East regions of Russia for which the airbridge is the main means of communication with the central regions of the country. Looking forward, Il-96-400T cargo aircraft is planned to be used on routes that connect Russia with India, China and also Southern America and European countries. «We, for our part, will make all efforts in order to provide operation integrity of our engines" - emphasized À.À. The main feature of PS-90A1 gas turbine engine - PS-90A engine modification - is an increased thrust (up to 17,400 kgs) full power conditions in comparison with the baseline engine. Besides PS-90A1 has low-emission combustor and is equipped with second generation acoustic constructions that provide the compliance of the aircraft with the most severe ICAO noise and emission requirements.
The addition to 16D/D29 type Certificate for PS-90A1 engine modification for its application as a part of Il-96-400T aircraft powerplant with increased takeoff weight was registered by the decision of Aviation Committee Presidium in December, 2007.
For the first time Il-96-400Ò aircraft with PS-90A1 engines was shown at International Aviation & Space Salon "MAKS-2007".
